November 15, Saturday afternoon: Aviation Merit Badge Will be a session in a hangar in Upland, California.
   1.  Have a 45 minute instructional period to get the guys started on section 1 of the requirements. This should get them 70+% of the way toward fulfilling the knowledge requirement for the badge. They can make it the rest of the way on their own using information in the Aviation Merit Badge book.
   2. Perform a pre-flight inspection of a light aircraft (Option 2a)
   3. Explain the purposes and functions of the various instruments found in a typical single engine airplane. (Option 2f)
   4. Visit and airport and report on how facilities and runways are determined to be active (Option 4a)
After this session, they will still have to do the following:
    * Complete a brief worksheet on section 1 (see above) describing what they learned. I’ll pass this out during our session.
    * Find out about three career opportunities in aviation. This can probably be done through an internet search.
    * Build a model FPG-9 airplane. (Most of the boys already did this in one of the Tuesday meetings last year)
A complete listing of merit badge requirements can be found at http://www.boyscouttrail.com/boy-scouts/meritbadges/aviation.asp
Mr A. can take up to 10 scouts for this session. Since we are going to be walking around fragile and expensive structures, every scout needs an adult in attendance who agrees to be responsible.  Also, when we do the pre-flight inspection you will have the opportunity to help your scout(s) with the walk-around (see note).  It would expected the session to begin at 1:30 and last 3-4 hours.
