Why Hold OA Elections
It is disappointing that some Troops do
not hold Order of the Arrow (OA) elections and have an OA
scouts to help with AOL and Bridging Ceremonies.
Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts
of America. It is BSA's policy that each Troop hold
OA
elections once a year in Jan. Feb. or March. By not holding
OA
elections, Troops are barring Scouts from a chance to be in the BSA
national honor society. A Scout is a youth in the OA till age
21,
so it gives older scouts an opportunity to be involved in Scouting
longer. Eagle Scouts and other Scouts, after aging out of a
Troop
at age 18, are able to continue with BSA leadership positions, service
projects and BSA camping in the OA till they turn 21. OA Scouts have a
great time, as the OA gives them opportunities that are not open to
them in a Troop alone. What type of opportunities? Going to
BSA
camps for free or for a very small fee, working with Community Leaders,
BSA Camp Rangers, District Staff, Council Staff, Philmont Staff and
more. Being an
honor society, the OA does not have ranks or advancement requirements,
like a Troop. OA membership is based on a Scout's achievements in his
Troop, not the OA. Order of the Arrow membership also looks
good on Resumes. As a national
honor society, Scouts that go away to college can still be an
OA youth in their new town.
Jan 1 to
April Troop elections.
Deadline for completion of all election is April 19, All Election must
be done before April 19. A few helpers needed in
San Gabriel Valley District
___
Jan 1 to April 3. Arrow of Light (AOL) and Bridging Ceremonies. A few helpers needed in San Gabriel Valley District. The Youth Arrowman (under 21) will help set up (candle stand and wood bridge for the scouts to cross over, help the scouts repeating the Scout Oath and Law and help the Scouts light candles.
Webelos “Bridging” Ceremony Webelos “Arrow of Light” Ceremony
The BSA Webelos program is a 18 to 19 month program, not a 20 or 24 month program. Bridging late, like after April 3, takes away a new Scouts chance to get to know his new Troop before the summer break, this why it is against BSA policy to Bridge late in the year. Thus this part of the OA will not do any Ceremonies after April 3.
see:http://www.scouting.org/filestore/membership/pdf/Webelos_to_Scout.pdf
AOL Scouts are normally Awarded at the AOL Ceremony:
AOL Rank Card,
AOL Mom Pin, AOL Certificate (8x11"), Two AOL Patches: One for the Blue Uniform
and one for the Tan Uniform. (A custom Arrow on a plaque is
optional.)
Offered each Year from Jan. to April 2. Arrow of Light (AOL) and Bridging Ceremonies.
Each Year: Jan. - April Troop elections.

NOAC - National Order of the Arrow Conference - July 25-14, 2022 - University-of-Tennessee
The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is the flagship national Order of the Arrow event. It is held every two years at a major university campus and is typically attended by as many as 8,000 Arrowmen from all 50 states. It is second only to the BSA National Jamboree in size and scope. Our largest conference was in 2015, attended by more than 15000 Arrowmen to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow. We expect at least 6,000 Arrowmen to attend in 2022.
We are now taking reservations to be part of the Tuku'ut Lodge Contingent. The cost will be approximately $1500. A minimum deposit of $100 is due to hold your spot. Only register through the Lodge. For more information about NOAC use the following links HERE and HERE
