God and Me
A Religious Recognition for Cub Scouts
Our Cub Scouts say a promise each week. Cub Scout Promise: I,......, promise to do my best, To do my duty to God and my country, To help other people, and To obey the Law of the Pack.
Using P.R.A.Y.'s materials a Scout can earn the God and Me Religious Recognition patch for Cub Scouts. P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities for Youth) is a program for Protestant and Independent Christian Churches. At completion, the scout may wear the God and Me emblem on his uniform.
(see page 27 in the Bear book or the Pack web site http://home.earthlink.net/~basargent/Faith.htm)
This is an optional program for the boys. You, as the parent, will be responsible to see that your scout completes the three required projects at home.
The home projects are fairly simple to do. Their nature lends itself to individual home time rather than group time, which is why we're asking the boys to complete them at home. For example, for the session one project you choose to do one of the following:
· Interview an older adult to find out what they were like when they were your age. Find out what things were different and what things are the same...
· Think about all the people who have helped you learn. Review page 9, and then pick two people and write a letter to each of them telling them why they are special to you.
The three session chapters are titled: Me, the Story of My Life; God,
the Story of Jesus' Life; and God and Me, the Story of Jesus and Me Together.
You may guide him through the workbooks (and projects) at home and
submit them to David Sargent for review If done at home, you may
want to get the God and Me Counselor Manual which has the teaching guide
in it.
There is an (optional and quite involved) Mentor program for parents to work alongside their children.
I can bring these P.R.A.Y materials for display at Den Meetings for your review,
The workbooks and religious knot emblem will be provide by the Pack.
