Buckhorn elevation is 6,500 ft. No. Tent Sites: 4   RESERVATIONS: No  This campground with a wonderful blend of different trees, mainly
large Jeffrey pine and cedar, is located in a cool and shady dale or gentle canyon carved by a creek that meanders throughout the area.  The patches of fern and wildflowers, e.g., Shooting Star, add to the character of this gorgeous campground, which is particularly well suited for tent campers.  A community fire pit
is available for groups to enjoy a few campfire stories.  This is a campground where the whole family can enjoy a "real" forest. Although there are no grilles, each campsite has a fire ring.  Because it's so high up, it's only open from April to November. It's also a first-come, first-served campground with about 38 sites that fit two cars and up to eight people each, so they're a fairly good size. The campground isn't exactly a secret—in the summer, the sites have been filling up by Friday night—so get there as early as possible if you don't want a spot next to the toilets, which are "vault toilets" . The camp is tent-friendly

Wilson, off the 2 Freeway. As the name implies, you park your car five miles away and hike along a trail to reach the campground. (Be sure to get that Adventure Pass for your car. Rangers are vigilant!) Not to be confused with the West Fork Trail that starts up Highway 39 in Azusa, the first-come, first-served camp is classified by the Forest Service as having "light" usage; it only has seven sites and they don't get full, like, ever. The only water available is from a stream. Nice vault toilets. These sites are free to camp in, and are a good jumping off point for those interested in hiking some of the Gabrielino Trail or the Silver Moccasin, which meet south of the campground.
